The University at Buffalo (UB) Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Office of Medical Education, and UBMD Pediatrics is actively recruiting for a pediatrician to serve as Pediatric Clerkship Director in the Department of Pediatrics. The ideal candidate will be board certified in pediatrics and spend 0.70 FTE in their clinical care sub-specialty, and dedicate 0.30 FTE towards academic clerkship for the department.

The role of a Pediatric Clerkship Director is crucial in shaping the educational experience of medical students during their pediatric clerkship.

Responsibilities, qualifications, and support systems associated with this position include:
  • Curriculum Oversight: Oversees the curriculum for medical students during their pediatric rotation. This includes designing educational content, coordinating clinical experiences, and ensuring alignment with learning objectives.
  • Clinical Supervision: Provide guidance and supervision to students during their pediatric clerkship. This involves facilitating clinical rounds, case discussions, and hands-on patient care.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: The director assesses students’ performance, conducts evaluations, and provides feedback. They may also contribute to the development of assessment tools.
  • Faculty Development: Supporting faculty development is essential. The director helps train and mentor other educators involved in the clerkship.
  • Collaboration: They collaborate with other faculty members, department chairs, fellow educators and hospital administrators to enhance the clerkship experience.
  • Support systems exist through professional development, networking, and institutional support. Extensive clinical experience is essential as well as effective leadership skills. Prior teaching experience, especially in medical education, is valuable.

UBMD Pediatrics
UBMD Pediatrics is one of 18 practice plans within UBMD Physicians’ Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 17 pediatric subspecialties. Our physicians make up the academic teaching faculty within the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo and at Oishei Children’s Hospital.
