I am an Immunologist specialized in studying Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDs), which are genetic disorders that affect the development and/or function of the immune system, resulting is susceptibility to fatal infections that are otherwise cleared by healthy individuals. I use genetic and functional approaches to identify the basis of PIDs, with the aim of diagnosing the patients, understanding the molecular basis of the disease, and identifying the role of the gene in the function of the immune system. Once the molecular basis of the disease is identified, the information is used for the treatment of the patients and to deepen our understanding of the functional defects that result in PID.
