Dr. Espeland's primary research interest has been the analysis of data from clinical trials and epidemiologic cohort studies. This has led him to examine research questions in diverse fields such as women's health, aging, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sickle cell disease, cognition, and obesity. His methodological interests are in developing models from incomplete data and error-prone data. As applications of this methodology, he has explored relationships involving cognitive and phyiscal function, ultrasonography, dietary intake, and maturation and growth. He has a growing interest in behavioral interventions and cognitive aging: 104 of the 114 articles he has authored/co-authored since 2010 are in these areas. Overall, he has authored/coauthored more than 300 biomedical journal articles.
