Dr. Al'Aref's research focuses on applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms for outcomes research, in the setting of both the availability of clinical data and/or imaging results. For example, Dr. Al'Aref has spearheaded a collaboration with international institutions aimed at developing AI-based algorithms for the automatic segmentation of noninvasive cardiovascular images and use of such information for automatic establishment of diagnosis and prognosis.
Dr. Al'Aref has a keen interest in developing new percutaneous therapies, and has been involved in several projects in collaboration with biomedical engineers at the Dalio Institute (Left atrial appendage occluder devices, percutaneous mitral and tricuspid valves, novel intra-cardiac pressure sensors).
