Neurobiology of peripheral nerve fibers that cause pain
My research program focuses on the neurobiology of peripheral sensory nerve fibers , especially those that cause pain. Much of our work concerns sensory functions in normal tissues, and neural interactions with inflammation wound healing, anesthetics and other clinical treatments. In addition we study the development of teeth and their innervation, as well as immune capabilities of tooth pulp cells and pulp/nerve interactions. I have recently shifted to the Emeritus faculty, but continue to maintain a fully active laboratory in the Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Department.
