    Position overview


    Position title: Assistant Professor - Molecular Therapeutics - Molecular & Cell Biology
    Salary range: The current salary range for this position is $80,800 - $128,700 (9-month academic year salary), however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions.

    Position description

    The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Molecular Therapeutics, at the Assistant Professor level. The expected start date is July 1, 2026.
    We seek applicants in the areas of chemical biology, drug discovery, and mechanistic disease biology that fit the overall mission of the Molecular Therapeutics Division (https://mcb.berkeley.edu/faculty/mtx).


    Example areas of interest include, but are not limited to:



    • Therapeutic Discovery and Modulation: Development of novel chemical probes, small molecule therapeutics, or biologics that modulate disease-relevant biological pathways; new therapeutic modalities and technologies (e.g., induced proximity, multispecifics, designed proteins and biologics).

    • Technological Platforms for Target Discovery: Integrated genetic and chemical "omics" technologies for discovering disease drivers, targeting undruggable biomolecules or identifying targets of known drugs.

    • Innovations in Screening and Computational Approaches: High-content and computational (AI/ML) methods to access expanded chemical space, including DNA-encoded libraries and mRNA display technologies.

    • Human Disease Modeling: Cellular and organoid systems for disease modeling, including those derived from patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

    PhD, MD (or equivalent international degree)

    Preferred qualifications
    A PhD or equivalent international degree in Immunology or a related field. A record of demonstrated excellence, originality and productivity in research. An interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship with ability to support the success of all students through an inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy.
