UAB Staging Transition for Every Patient (STEP) Psychologist
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama (UAB) School of Medicine is offering a full-time faculty position for a licensed, or Alabama license eligible, Psychologist in the Division of Adult Psychiatry. Rank, tenure status and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Seeking a staff psychologist for the Staging Transition for Every Patient (STEP) program, a fully staffed multidisciplinary integrated clinic that helps young adults with complex and chronic health conditions move from pediatric care to adult care. STEP is expanding to meet the behavioral health needs of patients with developmental learning conditions such as autism and intellectual disability and serious health conditions such as cerebral palsy and neuromuscular disease, who are reaching adulthood and require the specialized care and attention of an interdisciplinary team. The team is seeking an enthusiast Psychologist with strong assessment, intervention, and collaboration skills to work with their team in providing comprehensive care to these patients.
The STEP psychologist will have primary clinical and service responsibilities to the multidisciplinary STEP outpatient and STEP hospital consult continuity of care services. This psychologist would be primarily responsible for collaborating with staff and other physicians on the STEP team, including the team psychiatrist to provide STEP patient evaluations, behavioral management recommendations and education. A key responsibility of this provider will be performing liaison work with STEP team providers, outpatient and hospital staff caregivers, Emergency Room nurses, social workers and physicians, in both hospital and outpatient settings to assist in managing the behavioral aspects of current and new STEP patients presenting to UAB. The psychologist will attend STEP team meetings and participate in building out the consult service in a collaborative manner that supports the team, patients and UAB system.
