    Position Description Summary:


    The MetroHealth System (MHS) and Case Western Reserve University invite applications for a Faculty Scientist position at the Associate Professor or Professor level (or commensurate experience) in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding person to join and contribute to a strong interdisciplinary translational research program.     The CWRU Department of PM&R is based at the MHS, which includes a 450-bed mission-driven essential academic medical center, a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level I Trauma Center and a federally designated Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model System Center. The MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute includes a 67-bed free-standing, CARF accredited rehabilitation hospital, which is organized into distinct units for brain injury, stroke and SCI.  Comprehensive neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation ambulatory services are delivered at the main campus and across multiple community-based satellites.  The Department includes over 40 clinical and research faculty, a 24 resident PM&R training program, and fellowship training programs in SCI Medicine, Brain Injury Medicine and Pain Medicine. In addition, there are more than 300 therapy, nursing and support staff members. The MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute has over $92 million in research funding and is internationally renowned for its translational basic and clinical research in the application of electrical stimulation for the treatment of CNS paralysis and chronic musculoskeletal pain. The Department is presently ranked #2 in the nation in NIH funding among Departments of PM&R in US Medical Schools.


    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:


    The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong program of high-quality extramurally-funded research with a focus on translation of technologic and biologic innovations to the clinic, with an emphasis directed toward neurologic conditions. PM&R faculty members actively contribute to an environment that values diversity and nurtures collaboration, creativity, and innovation. Ample opportunities exist to benefit from new interdisciplinary collaborations across the MHS, CWRU and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. There is a major focus on restoring motor and sensory function for individuals with CNS disorders with a strong program in neural engineering and commitment to clinical deployment. The candidate will participate as an active investigator in the in the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute and the MetroHealth Center for Rehabilitation Research.  The new faculty will also have the opportunity to advance and extend existing relationships to multiple departments in the hospital and the University.


     


    Minimum Qualifications:


    Applicants must have clear evidence of potential to maintain investigative independence (as evidenced in part by peer-reviewed publications and prior grant support), and the ability to teach effectively.


     


    Advertised Salary:


    Salary will be commensurate with experience and academic rank.
