The Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, and collaborative medical education faculty member. The position includes a full-time appointment at Stanford University in the Non-tenure Line (Research or Teaching) at the rank of Assistant,
Associate, or Professor.

The major criterion for faculty appointment in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge fills a programmatic need. The major criterion for faculty appointment in the Non-tenure Line (Teaching) is evidence of high-level performance as a teacher for whose special knowledge and pedagogical skills fills a programmatic need. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Medical education research and teaching is expected in both lines.

The successful applicant must have a PhD or MD with requisite education research training and a track record of high-impact, multidisciplinary research. Expertise in teaching, faculty development, education research methods, assessment, and program evaluation are required. In addition to pursuing their own line of research, this individual will provide consultation to emergency medicine faculty members and trainees who are conducting medical education research. He or she will be expected to be a collaborator, resource, and mentor for junior faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students. Teaching in our weekly Education Fellows Conference Series and Education Research Works-in-Progress is expected. Demonstrated success in grant writing for medical education research is desired, but not required. MD candidates must be ABEM board certified or eligible. Clinical responsibilities include patient care in the emergency department of Stanford University Hospital, a world-renowned, academic medical center. The Stanford University Emergency Medicine Residency is a PGY 1-4 program that accepts 15 residents per year. Our faculty consists of over 90 board-certified emergency physicians with broad scholarly interests and extramural funding. We sponsor 11 fellowship programs, required and advanced student clerkships, and several courses open to all students at Stanford University.

Preference will be given to applicants whose vision for teaching and research aligns with our mission to provide Precision Emergency Medicine, defined as harnessing advances in biomedical discovery, technology, and data to tailor interventions that promote individual and/or population health. The ideal candidate will have a vision for redesigning medical education to meet the needs of the next generation of education leaders in emergency medicine.
