The University of Kentucky College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine seeks a visionary Chair with a successful record of achievement in academic medicine in orthopaedic surgery and/or sports medicine. Prior extensive administrative experience as a department chair, division chief or program director is preferred. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills as a listener, decision-maker, humanist, and an effective advocate for the Department, its divisions, and its faculty. Exceptional accomplishments as a surgeon and academician are a must as the Chair’s duties will include a clinical practice.

The predominant criteria for appointment as Chair includes the proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in orthopaedic surgery. Previous experience in innovative research and scholarly activity is preferred, but not required.

The candidate should have experience developing collaborative initiatives and the personal charisma to promote, foster, and facilitate the trust of colleagues and the broader university. The successful applicant should demonstrate impeccable integrity and be an effective and able communicator.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery currently consists of 34 faculty (3 additional signed for next year), 8 advance practice providers and over 100 staff members. The department manages a 5-year Orthopaedic residency program (5 residents per year), as well as fellowship programs in Sports, Trauma and Joint Reconstruction (starting in 2020)
