A dual appointment in a clinical department would be feasible as appropriate.

The Department of Preventive Medicine, with over 20 full-time faculty members, is a highly collaborative and transdisciplinary department that includes expertise in preventive medicine, biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral research, health services research, community outreach, and clinical studies. UTHSC is a major medical and research center which employees more than 4,600 people on its faculty, staff, and not-for-profit corporation faculty practice groups.

Qualifications:

MD degree with eligibility for Tennessee medical licensure;
Preference given to candidates with an additional master’s degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, clinical and translational science or related field;
Demonstrated ability to produce peer-reviewed publications, and have potential to obtain extramural funding (i.e., NIH R01 awards or equivalent);
Experience proposing and implementing epidemiologic and clinical studies which may include observational studies, diagnostic studies, and/or randomized trials;
Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The successful candidate will have an existing clinical research program focused on key health outcomes. Relatedness to an ongoing research topic within UTHSC is ideal. Ongoing research topics in the Department of Preventive Medicine include diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, obesity/weight management, mobility, neurodevelopment, addiction, caregiver health, cancer, epigenetics, behavioral lifestyle change, and health across the lifespan. Opportunity for collaborations with many clinical practices across the region, with whom the Department maintains robust partnerships, is encouraged. These include Baptist Memorial Healthcare, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Memphis VA Medical Center, Regional One Medical Center, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Additional research resources include: UTHSC and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital pediatric DNA biorepository (http://www.lebonheur.org/research-and- education/research/biorepository-and-integrative-genomics-initiative/), and the UTHSC Enterprise Data Warehouse which houses clinical and administrative data across this hospital network.

Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the academic mission of Department of Preventive Medicine through teaching, mentoring students, and departmental service. This position comes with a competitive start-up package and excellent benefits through the state of Tennessee.

Interested applicants should electronically submit a copy of their curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing research interests and teaching experience, and at least three contacts for recommendation letters with Taleo application.

Review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the appointment is made. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action.
