Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the chair will provide the strategic vision and operational leadership for departmental academic and research programs. The Chair will work collaboratively with hospital and service line leadership to meet UAMS’s clinical mission and strategic priorities. This person will also have an important leadership role in developing and implementing population health strategies that meet the diverse health and health care needs of Arkansas’ communities. The Chair’s office will be located on UAMS’ Northwest Arkansas Regional Campus in Fayetteville. This location reflects UAMS’ commitment to developing a robust academic and clinical presence in Northwest Arkansas and the chair’s statewide scope of responsibilities. Additionally, this location capitalizes on outstanding opportunities for collaboration with existing research programs at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville and the Division of Community Health at UAMS-Northwest.

Goals and Objectives

This position is an outstanding opportunity for an academic family medicine physician to develop a nationally prominent Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. Specifically, the next Chair will:

  • Work collaboratively with hospital leadership to ensure the highest level of care for patients in UAMS’ family medicine clinics throughout the state. The Chair will work collaboratively with the Director of the Integrated Medicine Service Line and the Vice-Chancellor of Regional Campuses to ensure clinical excellence in each of the family medicine clinics throughout the state. It is expected that this statewide network of family medicine clinics will serve as the primary care foundation for the UAMS Health System.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital leadership and investigators in the UAMS College of Public Health to develop and implement a state-of-the-art population health program. The Chair will play an important leadership role in the development and implementation of UAMS’ population health strategies that meet the diverse needs of Arkansas communities.
