UCC wishes to appoint an experienced academic to the role of Professor (scale 2) in the discipline of Medical Education. Reporting to the Head of School of Medicine, the successful appointee will join a well-established and expanding School of Medicine with direct entry (from school) and graduate entry Medicine Programmes, as well as a BSc in Medical and Health Sciences, Masters programmes in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography and a growing portfolio of taught and research based post-graduate programmes. The faculty of the School of Medicine engage in broad-ranging and productive research programmes with ample and varied opportunities for internal collaborations.
The successful candidate will possess a primary medical qualification and post-graduate medical specialty training, and will be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of Ireland. The appointee will have a track-record of experience and achievement in the evolving discipline of Medical Education. Development, monitoring, assessment and review of educational programmes in the School of Medicine at both under- and post-graduate levels, experience in programme direction, participation in wide-ranging engagement with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies, medical schools and post-graduate training bodies will form important elements of this post. The appointee will engage widely with faculty to ensure the programmes within the School of medicine are built on firm and appropriate pedagogical principles.
The appointee will demonstrate scholarship and achievement in the research, innovation and scholarship of Medical Education, as evidenced by post-graduate student supervision to MSc, MD and PhD level, peer-reviewed publication relevant to the discipline of medical education, research grants and national and international standing for academic contributions in this field. The appointee will lead the further development of the academic discipline of medical education research within the School. The appointee will be experienced in academic settings and will contribute to the academic life of the university through participation in academic committees and positions of leadership as required, will engage with relevant external bodies relevant to the academic discipline and Medicine in general terms and will promote the good standing of the university through development of and promotion of strong research achievements in this area.

Appointment will be made on the Professor (Scale 2) Salary Scale: €104,313 – €122,510 (Scale B)/ €99,097 – €116,386 (Scale A)
Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
