Background: The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama (UAB) School of Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty position for a licensed, or Alabama license eligible, Clinical Health Psychologist for the Integrated Behavioral Medicine Service (iBeMS) in the Division of Adult Psychiatry. Rank, tenure status and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The iBeMS Psychologist will be co-located within primary care and/or other specialty clinics within the UAB Medical Center. The ideal candidate will have experience providing evidence-based interventions with a broad range of mental health disorders in adults 18 and older. Clinical work will include some combination of brief psychological assessments and brief, evidenced based intervention based on training and specific interest. Applicants with an interest in behavioral medicine preferred. Psychologists in the Department of Psychiatry are expected to provide supervision of graduate students, psychology interns, and psychiatry residents and fellows as part of their educational role.

In addition to UAB Hospital, UAB Medicine includes The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital, UAB Callahan Eye Hospital, as well as several primary and specialty care clinics, a dozen member and affiliate hospitals within Alabama, more than 10 cancer associates in the Southeast, and the Viva Health HMO.

Position details:

The iBeMS psychologist will:

  • Conduct brief functional assessment intakes and time-limited, evidence-based (i.e. CBT, MBCT, ACT, DBT-based) behavioral medicine interventions to patients spanning the lifespan in primary and specialty care clinics throughout UAB’s health system.

  • Substantive clinical responsibilities include:

    • 1) consulting and liaising with physicians and advanced care providers (APPs) to offer real-time patient clinical impressions and recommendations

    • 2) providing same-day and brief behavioral interventions

    • 3) administering and applying measurement-based care and

    • 4) participating actively in scaling, implementing, and evaluating iBeMS throughout the health system with ambassadorship, advocacy, clinical research, and quality improvement (QI) efforts.

    • 5) Provide clinical supervision to psychology doctoral students, interns/fellows, and other trainees and/or providers

Further, clinical research and program development opportunities include:

  • 1) facilitating the development and maintenance of the iBeMS patient reported outcomes (PRO) database,

  • 2) running descriptive and inferential iBeMS analyses using these data

  • 3) developing associated IRB and grant applications

  • 4) conceptualizing, writing, and publishing peer-reviewed scholarship, as well as

  • 5) developing and refining existing clinic standard operational procedures (SOPs), manuals, and

  • miscellaneous iBeMS clinic protocols and materials.

Preferred candidacy criteria:

Required: Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD) or higher in clinical psychology or a related field.

Preferred: Behavioral medicine experience desired. Demonstrated history of work in integrated medical settings also preferred.
