Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Carbohydrate Chemistry or closely related field. Ability to perform multi-step organic syntheses, purifications and product characterization is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Carbohydrate Chemistry and/or Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Other areas of experience include biorthogonal conjugation, natural product synthesis, small glycol-amino acids and glycol-organic conjugates are also highly desired.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Radiology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The successful incumbent will join Dr. Nashaat Turkman's multidisciplinary team of chemists, neuroscientists, physicians and others at the Department of Radiology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Stony Brook Cancer Center.

The research focuses on development and synthesis of novel Positron Emission Tomography (PET) probes and theranostics for imaging and therapy applications in cancer and disorders of the central nervous system. All research projects will have components like organic chemistry, drug design, radiochemistry, in vitro and in vivo evaluation of PET imaging probes in live animal models with focus on clinical translation. Ability to perform multi-step organic syntheses, purifications and product characterization is a must. Other areas of experience include biorthogonal conjugation, natural product synthesis, small glycol-amino acids and glycol-organic conjugates are also highly desired. Experience in radiochemistry is not necessary since training will be provided as needed.

The main responsibilities include synthesis of bioactive small molecules and small molecule drug conjugates, routine productions, purifications, characterizations and formulations for in vitro and in vivo applications. Fluency in English is required.

  • Organic synthesis of small molecules (multi-step synthesis).
  • Characterization of small molecules using spectroscopic techniques .
  • Experience in bioconjugate/biorthogonal chemistry. Synthesis and characterization of small molecule drug conjugates and liposomal-based conjugates.
  • Experience with micro-scale chemical reactions.
  • Operation and maintenance of various laboratory equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
