The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a full-time, 12-month clinical track appointment in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia at the faculty rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Responsibilities: Applicants should have a strong interest and experience in clinical anesthesiology and in instruction of veterinary students. A clinical track position is designed for individuals desiring to focus on service/teaching obligations in a university teaching hospital setting. Clinical service expectations include teaching professional veterinary students while providing anesthesia services for the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital and for the JT Vaughan Large Animal Teaching hospital. Additional expectations include leading the anesthesia service by providing training for technical staff and overseeing organization of the anesthesia cases and staff for efficient daily service operation.

There is some flexibility in the percent effort for the faculty assignments depending on an individual’s interest and expertise. Although this position is heavily weighted toward clinic service and teaching, opportunities for research and other scholarly activity are numerous.

The successful applicant will join a current team of four ACVAA Diplomate faculty, five ACVAA residents, and eight technicians. The anesthesia service supports specialists in small animal medicine and surgery; equine medicine and surgery; food animal medicine and surgery; avian and exotic medicine; theriogenology, dairy medicine; sports medicine; emergency and critical care; medical, surgical and radiation oncology; ophthalmology; cardiology; dermatology; neurology; and diagnostic imaging.

Small animal anesthesia equipment includes integrated Surgivet CDS-9000 workstations with DRE multi-parameter monitors (including agent monitoring), Datex-Ohmeda Aestiva 3000 anesthesia workstation with S5 multi-parameter monitor, Hallowell ventilators, Sonosite ultrasound machine, peripheral nerve stimulators, Phillips Expression MR compatible multi-parameter monitor, DRE MR compatible small animal anesthesia machine with ventilator, and NOVA blood gas analyzer. Large animal anesthesia equipment includes Hallowell Tafonius Jr. anesthesia machine, JD Medical LAV-3000 MRI compatible large animal anesthesia machine, Aestiva 3000 anesthesia workstation, two DRE multi-parameter monitors and NOVA blood gas analyzer. Other equipment onsite includes Co2 surgical laser (Aesculight), Eklin digital radiology, linear accelerator, 3T Phillips MRI, GE 128-slice CT scan (both with large and small animal capabilities), standing equine CT, a Siemens digital RF suite, and GE interventional radiology suite. The Auburn University MRI center provides 3T and 7T MRI service for research studies. The small animal and large animal ICU facilities are approved for ACVECC training and have dialysis capabilities.
