The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of general anesthesia at HUP and PPMC.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include collaborative and/or independent research resulting in publications and grants.

Additional responsibilities will include leadership of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care in (primarily) the clinical domain. This includes accountability for achieving faculty/staff productivity targets, working with the Department Chief Operating Officer to meet the annual budget, and working with the other Vice Chairs to achieve the Department’s strategic objectives. The Vice Chair of Clinical Operations reports to the Chair.
