The Huang/Slone laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a highly motivated research technician to study the molecular basis of genetic syndromes. The group studies a variety of genetic diseases, with the ultimate goals of developing treatments for said conditions while also translating the discoveries from rare diseases to more common conditions. They place a special emphasis on mitochondrial diseases (see Dr. Huang’s faculty page for more details), which play a critical and often underappreciated role in a wide variety of disorders. Methodologies used include next generation sequencing to identify disease-causing mutations, and iPSC and mouse models to characterize the impact of these mutations using CRISPR/Cas9-based methods.
SUNY Buffalo is the premier research institution in the State University of New York system, and as a member of this research community, the capable and motivated scientist will be well-positioned to produce high-impact research on critical issues in molecular genetics. Buffalo is also an affordable and thriving city that will be attractive for any potential resident.
Candidates for this position will be required to perform the following tasks to support and assist the research project in the lab:
- The proper care and maintenance of equipment.
- The preparation of reagents for the labs.
- The care and maintenance of the mouse colony.
- The genotyping of the mice using PCR, the careful maintenance of labs records.
- Performing other basic molecular biology techniques such as western blot or gel electrophoresis.
