The Department of Neurosurgery, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS), University at Buffalo (UB), is seeking a Neurosurgeon at the academic rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will:
  • Engage in the academic mission of the department through excellence in clinical care, education and innovation.
  • Provide clinical and surgical evaluation and treatment in patients with movement disorders, medically refractory epilepsy and chronic pain.
  • Provide clinical evaluation and treatment of patients in need of radiosurgery.
  • Participate in the teaching and mentorship of residents and fellows.

We offer comprehensive neurosurgery care including complex and minimally invasive spine care, neurovascular care, movement disorders/epilepsy surgery, primary brain tumors, skull base/pituitary tumor surgery, gamma knife and pediatric neurosurgery. The new neurosurgeon will work closely with an established functional neurosurgeon offering mentorship and the opportunity to develop a busy clinical practice including DBS, epilepsy surgery, stimulators, stereotactic radiosurgery and/or pain pumps. Interests in general neurosurgery, trauma and spine can also be developed.

The group admits at two main hospitals a 500+ bed acute care facility and Level 2 Trauma Center and a 265-bed medical center and exceptionally busy stroke center.

Practice Highlights:
  • Full academic faculty position including student, resident and fellow teaching and support for academic/research interests.
  • Group employs its own research department offering support for grant writing and collaborative research interests.
  • Wide breadth of functional neurosurgery cases able to be developed including DBS, adult epilepsy surgery, pumps, stimulators and radiosurgery (Gamma Knife).
  • Hospital has all of the latest equipment and technology including OArm, intraoperative fluoroscopy, biplane angiosuite, neuronavigation, Gamma Knife.
  • Strong referral network from local neurology practice, which is actively recruiting for a Movement Disorders Neurologist
  • Q6 call schedule with neurosurgery residents taking first call
  • 18-bed NeuroICU staffed by a neurointensivist;
  • Group employs midlevels. (PA's and NP's) to assist in the OR and clinic
  • Immediate volume available plus opportunity to capture additional referral sources and outmigration
