Overview

The Department of Developmental, Molecular and Chemical Biology conducts research of basic biochemical and molecular mechanisms involved in cell functions in both the normal and diseased states, as well as teaching students at the Medical, Dental Schools, and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

 

We are looking for a highly motivated person who is interested in gradually taking over an independent project, and is able to provide a 2-year commitment. The lab is focused on elucidating the roles of drug-targetable cell death pathways in human diseases, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), cancer, viral pneumonia and others.


What You'll Do

This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for severance pay. 

 

The work in the lab includes identification and optimization of the small molecule drug candidates targeting cell death, analyses of the molecular mechanisms of cell death at the cellular level, and evaluation of the mechanisms and therapeutic potential of small molecule inhibitors in animal disease models.

 

Under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician responsibilities include:

  • Conducts a variety of experiments following established procedures and protocols, including tissue culture, western blotting, qRT-PCR immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, CRISPR-Cas9 editing, and various animal experiments
  • Records test results and maintains accurate records of experiments
  • Performs data analysis using appropriate statistical software
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and orders/keeps inventory of supplies
  • Participates in the weekly lab Journal Club
  • Assumes responsibility for gradually taking over an independent project


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
 
Knowledge and skills typically acquired by:
  • Bachelor’s degree in science with up to one year laboratory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some familiarity with laboratory techniques and procedures, including tissue culture, PCR, Western blotting, qRT-PCR and immunofluorescence is requisite. Experience with animal handling and some knowledge/experience in Immunology or Cancer Biology is preferred.
