The University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Ky., invites applications and nominations for the position of professor and chair of the department of internal medicine. The department of internal medicine is the largest department in the College of Medicine and at the University of Kentucky, with 15 divisions, approximately 300 faculty, 88 residents, 40 fellows, 100 advanced practice providers, and over 320 staff members as of fall 2020. The department is also vital to UK HealthCare, a nationally recognized health care system dedicated to patient-focused care. University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital remains the No. 1 hospital in Kentucky and the Bluegrass Region, according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Rankings.
The College of Medicine, is one of six health-related colleges at the University (Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health), encompassing a combined 25 basic science and clinical departments and more than 1,100 faculty members.
In the past few years, the college has expanded its educational and research efforts, adding two new regional campuses in Bowling Green and Northern Kentucky, and doubling its National Institutes of Health funding.
There is particular opportunity to advance research in alignment with the University’s historic commitment to key research priorities, and in partnership with the National Cancer Institute designated Markey Cancer Center, Gill Heart & Vascular Institute, Barstable Brown Diabetes Center, and the UK Center for Clinical and Translational Science, among many others institutes and centers.
The predominant criteria for appointment as chair include the proven ability to deliver excellent patient care while training future leaders in internal medicine. The successful candidate will be a nationally-prominent academic leader and role model with an established record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship.
