Legacy Health is seeking a new program director for the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program in Portland, OR. This longstanding, successful, robust, community-based residency program currently sponsors an 18-16-16 categorical + 4 preliminary medicine positions. Our three-year board pass rate is 100% and most of our faculty have academic appointments at one or more of our partner institutions. The residents split their time between Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, a quarternary care center, providing simulation, ECMO, trauma, burn, and hyperbaric medicine services and Legacy Good Samaritan, a tertiary care institution supporting the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon and specialized cancer care services. We have two hospital-based continuity clinics with multiprofessional support teams including pharmacy, behavioral health, and case management.
Legacy Health has numerous academic affiliations and partnerships, robust support of professional development for educators, and Legacy Research Institute with clinical research support.
The ideal program director will serve as a role model of professionalism and clinical excellence. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
-Supervising associate program directors, core faculty, and residents
-Envisioning strategy for residency education to meet needs of future residents
-Leading and supervising didactic education
-Continuing the culture of inquiry and embracing patient safety and quality improvement
-Encouraging a diverse faculty and residency selection process
-Devoting 50% of time to patient care and 50% to residency administrative duties
-Creating and fostering opportunities for research and scholarly activities
-Providing faculty development opportunities based on needs of faculty
-Working collaboratively with program coordinator and other support staff to optimize the clinical and educational working environment as well as compliance with accrediting body requirements.
-Engaging with academic partners in an effort to improve residency recruitment and selection.
-M.D. or D.O.
-Approved residency in Internal Medicine (internal medicine subspecialists are encouraged to apply as well)
-Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or current certification in the specialty specific certification that is acceptable to ACGME’s Review Committee
-Oregon Medical License (ability to obtain one)
-Documented clinical, academic, and administrative experience to ensure effective implementation of program requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Internal Medicine
-Minimum five-years participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency program, including a minimum of three years graduate medical education administrative experience
