A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience (https://www.ttuhsc.edu/medicine/pharmacology/default.aspx) at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), Lubbock, TX to study brain mechanisms of neuroplasticity in pain conditions.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, and will be expected to contribute actively and effectively to ongoing NIH-funded neuroscience research programs centered on limbic brain functions and dysfunctions in pain and related conditions. Ongoing projects are focused on neuro-immune signaling, transsynaptic signaling complexes, and neuropeptides such as opioids. This is a great opportunity to apply, and/or receive training in, electrophysiology, optical imaging, chemogenetics, optogenetics and behavioral assays. Expertise in any of these approaches is preferred. First author publications in peer reviewed journals and knowledge of the neuroscience literature are required. Strong writing and communication skills and an ability to work independently are essential. Collaborative research projects involve transcriptomics and neurodegenerative disease and provide additional opportunities for training. Effective mentoring provides an excellent work environment.
The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience is based in the School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), which is an autonomous university adjacent to Texas Tech University, a vibrant college of more than 40,000 students. TTUHSC has an excellent infrastructure that includes core facilities for state-of-the-art imaging and molecular biology (https://www.ttuhsc.edu/research/divisions/core-facilities.aspx). The Department houses behavioral, electrophysiology, molecular biology, confocal and multiphoton microscopy facilities for collaborative research. The Department is located on the TTUHSC campus in Lubbock, a city of nearly 300,000 on the South Plains of West Texas, with a family-friendly atmosphere, good schools and a national ranking for a low cost of living and short average commute (https://visitlubbock.org).
