An Assistant Specialist position is available in the Harris laboratory in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, which works on the virology, immunology, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of dengue and Zika viruses using in vitro systems, mouse models, and studies in human populations. Dengue and Zika are major public health problems worldwide, caused by mosquito-borne RNA flaviviruses. Clinical and epidemiological studies are conducted in collaboration with scientists in Nicaragua as long-term partners in a region endemic for dengue and Zika. We seek a Assistant Specialist to work on the human immunology projects investigating dengue and Zika virus infections in our Nicaraguan hospital and cohort studies under the direction of Dr. Eva Harris.

More about research in the Harris lab can be found at https://www.harrisresearchprogram.org/

Responsibilities Include:
  • The Assistant Specialist will lead neutralization analysis of recombinant chimeric dengue viruses for a project on epitope repertoire in Nicaraguan subjects, as well as a sub-project on neutralization analysis of repeat dengue virus infections in the Nicaraguan cohort study.
  • Evaluating plasma immune responses post-dengue and Zika virus infection using a multicolor B cell FluoroSpot assay, flow cytometry assays, and various neutralization assays, which also necessitates production and purification of viruses and monoclonal antibodies used in the studies.

This position reports to Professor Eva Harris. The initial appointment is 80% time with full health benefits plus retirement benefits, for two years with the expectation of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Basic Qualifications (required at the time of application):
Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree, or equivalent international degree
