|
Postdoctoral Fellowship -- Virology
Beginning November 2009
The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas, invites applications for one Postdoctoral Fellow in the study of the pathogenesis of infection and disease in hamster models of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
Description:
The Fellowship will provide a highly supportive environment for the intellectual and professional growth of a Postdoctoral Scientist, motivated toward a career in research on the pathogenesis of the human diseases caused by negative-strand viruses.
The successful candidate will be provided opportunities to work at biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) and BSL-4, write manuscripts, present at scientific meetings and develop a leadership role in the laboratory.
Training for work at BSL-3 and BSL-4 will be provided by University Personnel.
Responsibilities:
1.Plan and perform experiments. These experiments will entail a significant amount of bench work at biosafety level 2 (BSL-2), work with infectious virus at BSL-3 and work with experimentally infected laboratory rodents at BSL-3 and BSL-4.
2.Draft the scientific manuscripts related to the studies.
3.Participate in intra- and interdepartmental conferences.
4.Present research work at national and international meetings.
5.Perform other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic Scientist to study the pathogenesis of infection and disease in hamster models of hantavirus (cardio-) pulmonary syndrome. Experience in Molecular Virology or Immunology is required and experience in working with viruses and laboratory rodents is preferred. The candidate should have his/her Ph.D. in Molecular Virology, Biology or Immunology within the last 4 years.
Application Details/Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have working knowledge of classical methods for the study of RNA viruses, strong backgrounds in Molecular Biology or Virology, good communication skills and the capacity to work independently in a team environment. Knowledge of Virus Pathogenesis and Immunology will be a "plus."
