The Sydney Medical School’s Discipline of Pharmacology (
http://www.usyd.edu.au/pharmacology/) provides a vibrant and dynamic environment for conducting high quality research and teaching. Students enrolled in Undergraduate Pharmacy, Science and Medical Science degrees, are taught by the Discipline in the 2nd and 3rd years of their study. Pharmacology also provides teaching expertise to students enrolled in the University of Sydney Medical Program (USydMP) and Master of Pharmacy postgraduate degrees. Collectively, they are committed to scholarship in teaching and the ongoing review and development of their teaching practices. There is also a strong and growing research environment in the Discipline of Pharmacology, covering a range of research areas, including Neuropharmacology, Pharmacogenetics, Pharmacoinformatics and Medicinal Chemistry, as well as Molecular, Respiratory, Cancer and Clinical Pharmacology. Pharmacology attracts close to $ 2.5 million in competitive grant funding. The Discipline of Pharmacology is also well positioned to take advantage of the University’s new Research Building which is due for completion in 2013.
The Discipline of Pharmacology is currently seeking suitably qualified candidates for the role of Associate Professor, Pharmacology.
As Associate Professor, you will be expected to play a leadership role in the Discipline’s teaching and research Programs. You will contribute significantly to the teaching of students and to other relevant professionals and will take the lead in curriculum development in fields related to your discipline. You will also be responsible for the supervision of Postgraduate Research Students. With a strong and rigorous research background, you will provide leadership in and undertake original research to complement the existing research in Neuroscience, Medicinal Chemistry and/or the research initiatives of the new Research Building (Obesity, Diabetes & Cardiovascular Disease). A suitably qualified candidate would become Director of the Adrien Albert Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry (

To succeed, you will require a higher research degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) and evidence of distinguished scholarship in Pharmacology. You will have a proven track record of developing research programs relevant to Pharmacology and attracting major competitive funding. As a senior University academic, you will also have administrative responsibilities; therefore, substantial experience in the management of a major research or academic group, including a demonstrated ability to lead research teams, is essential. Also required is solid teaching experience at University level and experience in curriculum development and delivery.

The position is full-time, continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership in a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
Remuneration package: $132,887 - $146,264 p.a. (which includes a base salary Level D $112,465 - $123,898 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer's contribution to superannuation).
