Position Summary

The Project Administrative Officer (Scientific Workforce Specialist) is a position funded by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) award from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences to the University at Buffalo to synergize and enhance work in clinical and translational science research and to train and develop a diverse clinical and translational workforce. The Scientific Workforce Specialist will coordinate all workforce and Junior Scientists professional development activities, as well as act as the liaison between program leadership and junior scientists mentors. They will assume an active role in the integration of various education and diversity initiatives within the CTSA hub by working with leaders along the pipeline to facilitate, integrate, and coordinate workforce development at all levels. They will collaborate, mentor, and interact with all individuals in the workforce involved in clinical and translational science pipeline to enhance excellence through inclusion and diversity. They will play an active role in recruiting Junior Scientists as KL2 scholars, developing online modules and providing professional development. This position requires the ability to work well with other members of the CTSI team and the community and make occasional trips related to CTSI activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, biomedical, clinical, translational and/or behavioral sciences in and have 2-3 years of responsible experience in mentoring, education and diversity initiatives as well as program administration and assessment. Excellent oral and written communication skills in the science and academic fields are essential. Applicants should be highly flexible, organized and willing to work in a large team of individuals including staff, students, professors and senior institutional leadership.

  • Teaching, curriculum development and/or delivery in person and/or on line courses experience.
  • Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
  • Experience in working in an inclusive and diversity environment.
  • Superior coordination ability, organizational and interpersonal skills, and problem solving.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel, graphics software (ppp, publisher and/or others), and excellent ability to
    communicate using social media.
  • Ability to maintain professional standards under routine conditions of demanding time constraints and deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with other members of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MD degree in education, biomedical, clinical, translational and/or behavioral sciences.
  • Teaching, mentoring and advising experience would be preferred
  • Basic and/or clinical research background, as well familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Experience in interacting/working with individuals from diverse intellectual, ethnic, racial and/or cultural backgrounds
