The Department of Biochemistry is expanding its faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank (all ranks tenure-track). The department is seeking to recruit investigators with innovative research programs that seek to understand biological mechanisms that complement existing strengths in metabolism, neurobiology, protein biochemistry, structural biology, cancer cell biology, and regulation of gene expression. Minimum qualifications for the position are a PhD and/or MD plus at least two years of postdoctoral research with a demonstrated record of high quality research at all career levels. For consideration at the associate or full professor rank, the candidate must have a successful research program with sustained productivity and extramural funding support. Candidates at the associate or full professor rank with expertise in mass spectrometry will have an opportunity to provide leadership or consultation in the development and operation of the metabolomics core facility. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. Priority will be given to investigators whose research focuses on the regulation of metabolism as it applies to metabolic, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program and demonstrate excellence in teaching graduate and professional level courses in biochemistry.

The Department of Biochemistry and West Virginia University provide a rich research environment including (with specific regards to metabolic research): 1) resources for analysis of body composition and measurement of metabolic parameters in whole animals and live cells; 2) a new 21,000 Sq.ft. animal facility; 3) state of the art imaging, genomics, metabolomics, and flow cytometry facilities; 4) a university-wide Mitochondria, Metabolism, and Bioenergetics Group; 5) the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute; 6) the newly founded Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and 7) the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute.

West Virginia University is a comprehensive, land-grant University with 191 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs and an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students. The WVU School of Medicine is a component of The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, which facilitates productive research interactions with the WVU Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health. Recent expansion at the Health Sciences Center includes new research buildings, which collectively provide approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of additional research space, to accommodate growth in research programs and core facilities. With a metropolitan population of over 130,000, Morgantown is consistently rated as one of the best small cities in the U.S., with an affordable cost of living, excellent schools, a picturesque countryside, and is famous for its outdoor recreational opportunities. Morgantown has a local airport, the Pittsburgh International airport is 90 min away by car, and Washington, DC is 3hrs away by car.
