Tulane University School of Medicine invites applications from outstanding biomedical scientists and educators for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Tulane University has a long tradition of excellence in infectious disease, microbiology and immunology research. Unique and highly synergistic resources in Tulane’s School of Medicine, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and National Primate Research Center offer extensive opportunities for collaborations in basic and translational research. The Microbiology Chair will oversee the Department’s research and education missions within the MD, PhD, and postdoctoral training programs of the Medical School. In addition, the Chair will be responsible for oversight of departmental faculty who are based at the primate center. Developing successful research programs and effective mentoring of junior faculty in their paths towards independence are essential responsibilities of this position. Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree and be eligible for the rank of full Professor with tenure. Candidates must have a well-recognized research program that complements the department’s existing research strengths. Candidates must also have current research funding and a strong record of administrative expertise, academic leadership, and commitment to teaching. Candidates should offer visions for enhancing the research strengths of the department and for fostering collaborations among departmental faculty as well as with investigators in the larger University community. In addition, innovative ideas for developing collaborations with clinical disciplines would be highly valued.
