Vivienne and Ross Hobson Chair in Paediatric Cardiac Disease
The Children’s Hospital at Westmead | Sydney Medical School
Reference no. 1657/1016

The University of Sydney is Australia’s first university and has an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence. We employ over 7600 permanent staff, supporting over 60,000 students.

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network Cardiac Services, incorporating The Heart Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, is one of the leading paediatric cardiac services in Australia, whilst The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is one of the main teaching hospitals of the University of Sydney. The Vivienne and Ross Hobson Chair in Paediatric Cardiac Disease is the first endowed chair in paediatric heart disease of its type in Australia. The objectives for the program are to establish internationally leading research in paediatric heart disease of translational benefit, and to advance academic pursuits into the clinical care of paediatric heart disease.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical graduates eligible for registration in NSW for appointment as a Conjoint Professor with the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney; a Senior Staff Specialist/VMO at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN); and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

You will have an excellent research background and advanced clinical expertise in the area of paediatric heart disease, with these capabilities aligning with the existing research and clinical vision of the SCHN Cardiac Service. You must possess a minimum of a PhD or equivalent and will have proven administrative skills and experience in, and a commitment to, medical education.

As Chair, you will be responsible for:
•     ensuring the advancement of leading edge research into paediatric heart disease as a means of creating improved understanding and to offer improved care through translation of that knowledge
•     aligning the research and clinical objectives of the SCHN Cardiac Service, including the Cardiac Service Vision and Culture Statement (Nov 2013); and
•     establishing research and teaching focused on the area of paediatric heart disease, consistent with the existing research vision.

Term
The successful applicant will be offered an appointment as Professor in Paediatric Heart Disease and a Senior Staff Specialist/VMO within SCHN Cardiac Services, primarily based at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and with research responsibilities for paediatric heart disease across both Network sites. The appointment will made on a full-time continuing basis and be subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period. A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
