The Department of Psychiatry at McGill University, the Douglas Hospital Research Centre and its Mental Health and Society Research Program, invite applications for a position in the area of mental health services and policy research. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of full-time Assistant or Associate Professor (Research).

With over 55 researchers spanning the full range of mental health research (neuroscience, clinical, services, policy and epidemiology/population health), the Douglas Hospital Research Centre has been an international leader in mental health research for more than 30 years. Integrated within the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, a psychiatric hospital, and the much larger Montreal West-Island Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre, the Douglas Hospital Research Centre also offers significant opportunities for carrying out research in collaboration with a wide range of nearby mental health services.

Job Duties

  • Carry out an independently-funded research program in the field of Mental Health Services and Policy.
  • Independently acquire sufficient funds to support training of a diverse group of graduate students at the MSc and PhD level.
  • Participate actively in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission, with demonstrated strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all areas (research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education requirements

  • PhD in epidemiology, psychology, social work, health economics, nursing, occupational therapy, sociology, public health or a related field, with advanced post-doctoral training.
  • Evidence of exceptionally strong research productivity, with a demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding.
  • Clear potential to influence mental health services and/or policy.
  • A working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment, is essential.
