A postdoctoral fellow position is available to study cerebral metabolism in aging and Alzheimer’s Disease in the lab of Dr. Lance A. Johnson, Ph.D. The Johnson lab focuses on the effects of the APOE gene (the strongest genetic risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer’s Disease) on cerebral metabolism. Our highly translational research projects range from in vitro metabolomics approaches, to in vivo multiphoton imaging, to clinical research studies. Responsibilities of the position include working with Dr. Johnson to conduct NIH-sponsored research on mechanisms of APOE-associated alterations in neuronal and glial metabolism. This includes designing and conducting experimental studies within an interdisciplinary team, and organizing, analyzing, and presenting experimental data.
We are seeking outstanding scientists with Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degrees. The ideal candidate will have research experience in the field of neuroscience with a focus on cerebral metabolism, oxidative stress, and/or neuroinflammation, but outstanding candidates with experience in other areas will also be considered. Experience with primary cell culture, animal models of neurodegeneration, behavioral testing, and ‘omics analyses (especially mass spectrometry-based metabolomics) are desirable, but not required.
