ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN ANATOMY AND CELL SCIENCE

The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba is seeking applications for a full‐time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing as early as November 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This full-time tenure track position is at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have an MD and/or PhD degree or equivalent, several years of postdoctoral experience, and has demonstrated excellent research productivity in the area of cell biology. The successful applicant also has a record of mentorship of undergraduate, graduate and/or postdoctoral level trainees. The incumbent must have experience in teaching human histology educational courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in both small and large group teaching.

The candidate is expected contribute to departmental and faculty-wide teaching and to develop a strong, independently funded and internationally recognized research program. Preference will be given to candidates with a particular research emphasis on intercellular communication, cell signaling and differentiation, and/or (stem) cell plasticity. Examples of suitable research areas include, but are not limited to, understanding different forms of cell-cell communications between different cell types in the microenvironment for promoting cell/ tissue plasticity, the role of post-translational modifications on cell fate decisions, regulation of cell aging and death, and mechanisms of genome stability. The incumbent will have the unique opportunity to network with established research groups in the areas of Neurosciences, Regenerative Medicine, Breast and Brain Cancer, Immunology, Cardiovascular sciences, Child Health (CHRIM), and Biology of Breathing/ Lung diseases.

The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with and integrate into active research groups at the Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science and other basic science departments with recognized expertise in neuroscience, cancer biology, stem cell research, cardiovascular sciences, DNA repair/ genome stability and cell death mechanisms. She/he will have access to a state-of-the-art laboratory, 3D imaging, super-resolution imaging, transmission electron microscopy, animal facility, and human/animal PET and MRI, and histomorphology facilities. The incumbent will contribute to departmental and faculty-wide teaching and research related service.
